Bogor Botanical Gardens, located at 60 km south of Jakarta, or just one hour by car from Jakarta. Bogor Botanical Gardens in the town of Bogor located at the foot of Mount Salak, formerly known as the "Buitenzorg" which means "free care". Has a high rainfall throughout the year and a colder climate than the metropolitan city of Jakarta. Bogor's famous Botanical Gardens is located in an area of 87 hectares.

Bogor Botanical garden is the result of initiation of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles circa 1811-1816, the Governor-General of the East Indies during the British rule in Indonesia. He brought plants from the botanical gardens at Kew Gardens in England who planted this plantation house and Raffles first time only makes a small garden. Botanical garden was later officially founded by the Dutch in 1817 under the director of the CGC Reinwardt. This garden is a memorial for his wife Raffles.
Bogor Botanical Garden currently serves as a conservation plant, a research center for plant taxonomy and utilization. In horticulture, the garden serves as a place to study adaptations of plants, planting and crop development.
