Sembilang National Park is a wetland area with a variety of ecosystems ranging from peat swamp forest, freshwater swamps, mangroves and mud plains. Administratively, this park is part of the District Banyuasin and has become a national park since March 19, 2003, when separated from Berbak National Park in Jambi by local governments. This area is called Sembilang because it has a lot of fish Sembilang
(Plotosus canius).Banyuasin Peninsula, located on the east coast of South Sumatra, is a charming haven for water birds. The muddy soil conditions and is overgrown by mangrove border makes this place ideal for several types of invertebrates such as worms, mollusks, and crustaceans. Semenanjungnya jutting into the sea along the 1.5 kilometer also make this park into an ideal perch for birds migrating from Asia and Europe from October to December.
Chinese egret (Egretta Eulophotes), Trinil Lumpur-Asia (Limnodromus Semipalmatus), and Pedendang Mask (Heliopais Personata), is among 30 types of birds that migrate toward the Peninsula Banyuasin. These birds find a temporary home for the winter in their main habitat in Siberia, the Korean Peninsula, and Japan. Their final goal is a sub-tropical regions of Australia.
You'll find the landscape a very exotic at the northern tip of the island out because some of the swamps in this area is famous for its habitat for snakes, crocodiles and rare orchids.
